Luc Biscan-WhiteLuc Biscan-White (Siksikáí'tsitapi / Blackfoot, Irish-European, Appalachian) is a mutlidisipinary artist, plant ecologist, and researcher currently based on the stolen and occupied Tiwa, Tewa, Towa, and Pueblo Territory colonially referred to as “Albuquerque, New Mexico.”
Biscan-White was raised on the stolen and occupied lands of the Tutelo, Moneton, Eastern Band of Cherokee, and Yuchi lands colonially referred to as “Southwest Virginia and Southern West Virginia, Central Appalachia.”
Their practice is expressed through installation, sculpture, performance, writing, and anolog photography collaboratively made their material collaborations Metal, Clay, SCOBY, Fungi, and Wood. Their practice explores the material reality, context, and socio-politics of material kin. Contrasting the specific symbols and languague from Central Appalachia with abstract Metal and Clay sculptures, their work asks questions about the interlocking dynamics of language, poverty, and place that shape identity.
