Collective Hope (detail)

paper made from recycled paper on wood bark and dirt

Collective Hope is made from recycled paper dyed with dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) embedded with native seeds: crimson-eyed rose-mallow (Hibiscus moscheutos), wild geranium (Geranium maculatum), woodland sunflower (Helianthus divaricatus), and purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea); on a bed of white ash (Fraxinus americana) tree bark. Buried at the listed coordinates on stolen Tutelo and Monacan land (Wildwood Park, Virginia). This one-time performance and ritual replants seeds in a park overrun with invasive species.
